Dig Here is a multi-signal gold prospecting intelligence platform built for prospectors and fossickers. It fuses ultra high resolution LiDAR terrain, 300,000+ drill hole assays, geophysics, geochemistry, 160 years of mining history, and prospectivity targeting onto a single interactive map. Currently covering Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. Think of it as the platform a mining company would build for itself, priced for weekend prospectors.
Who built Dig Here?
Two blokes who know the bush, know the data, and got sick of coming home empty-handed. Andrew Davis brings deep expertise in databases and data systems. James Robinson specialises in GPS and mapping systems. We use Dig Here ourselves, and we are our own angriest customers.
Is Dig Here free to use?
Yes. The Free plan gives you base resolution terrain maps across Australia, New Zealand, the US, and Canada, plus gold workings and mining leases, satellite imagery, 3D terrain, and the measure tool. No credit card required. Paid plans unlock HD and ultra resolution terrain, drill assays, fossicking and gemstone sites, prospectivity pins, and more.
How do I sign up?
Click "Sign Up" in the top right corner. You can sign up using your email. Google, Facebook, or Apple sign-up is coming soon. Once signed up, you are on the Free plan immediately. No credit card required.
Is Dig Here only for gold prospecting?
Gold is our primary focus, but the datasets are useful for anyone interested in minerals, geology, or land exploration. The fossicking sites layer includes gem sites as well as gold, and the geophysics and geochemistry layers cover a broad range of mineral indicators. In the US and Canada, our terrain maps are just as useful for recreational prospectors, claim holders, and anyone who wants to read the ground properly before heading out. Beyond prospecting, the LiDAR terrain layers are genuinely useful for hikers, bushwalkers, and backcountry explorers. Bare-earth LiDAR strips away the canopy and reveals old trails, fence lines, fire trails, campsites, creek crossings, and terrain features that are invisible on satellite imagery or standard topo maps. If you spend time off-track in rough country, seeing the ground underneath the scrub before you get there changes how you plan a route.
Does Dig Here work on my phone?
Yes, and then some. Dig Here works in your mobile browser, but we have also built a native iOS app that takes it to a completely different level. Full offline maps, LiDAR terrain, 3D flyover, compass navigation to your pins, and gloves-on controls designed for the bush. The app is currently in beta on iOS, with Android on the roadmap. No extra cost. Whatever plan you are on, the app is included.
What areas does Dig Here cover?
Dig Here covers Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. Here is the honest state of LiDAR terrain coverage right now: Tasmania, ACT, and New Zealand are fully covered (~85-90% of NZ land area, with gaps only in remote Southern Alps and Fiordland where no government source data exists). NSW is around 55% covered and growing. QLD is around 5%, VIC around 3%, SA around 2%. WA and NT have no LiDAR coverage yet. New tiles go live every day as our pipeline processes them. In the United States, seamless hillshade covers the entire country via Esri elevation services, with dense 1-metre 3DEP elevation available in key gold states including California, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Arizona, and more. In Canada, British Columbia and the Yukon have 1m terrain. Satellite imagery and fossicking sites cover all of Australia regardless of LiDAR status. Drill hole assays and prospectivity pins are currently focused on NSW, with coverage expanding. View our live coverage maps for a visual overview of processing progress.
Where can I see what areas are covered?
Our coverage maps page shows a live overview of terrain processing progress across Australia and New Zealand. Green areas are complete and available on the map. Orange areas are currently being processed. Our processing pipeline is running right now, and new areas are being added every day. If you check back in a week, you will likely see more coverage than today. We prioritise goldfield regions and areas where prospectors are actively working, but the goal is full national coverage across all supported countries.
Why are some areas missing terrain or LiDAR coverage?
Dig Here generates its terrain and LiDAR maps from government-collected aerial survey data. In New Zealand, the source is the LINZ National Elevation Programme, which currently covers around 80% of the country. The remaining areas are predominantly remote alpine terrain in the Southern Alps, deep backcountry in Fiordland and Westland, and offshore islands. LINZ prioritises populated areas, coastal zones, flood-prone catchments, and post-earthquake survey zones, and has no current plans to survey the remaining remote areas. In Australia, LiDAR coverage from state agencies (Geoscience Australia, state spatial departments) covers roughly 3% of the continent, concentrated along the populated coast, floodplains, and urban centres. The vast arid interior has not been surveyed. If the government source data does not exist for an area, Dig Here cannot generate terrain maps for it. We process every tile that the source agencies provide.
Does Dig Here work in the United States and Canada?
Yes. Dig Here now covers the United States and Canada with serious terrain intelligence. You get seamless hillshade across the entire country, plus dense 1-metre elevation in key gold-producing states like California, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, and Arizona. In Canada, British Columbia and the Yukon are covered with terrain data. Use the US and Canada region selectors on the map to fly to any state or province. Gold sites, drill hole assays, geophysics, and prospectivity pins are currently available in Australia and New Zealand only, with US and Canadian evidence layers on the roadmap.

What plans are available?

- ›Digger - Everything in Fossicker, plus ultra resolution terrain maps and all 9 terrain analysis layers (NSW now, parts of QLD, more coming). Dig Here prospectivity pins with priority rank, plain-English geological reasoning, 20+ dataset convergence scoring, prospectivity evidence layers, GPS tracking to pins, unlimited waypoints with KML/GPX export, PDF reports (20/month), and 15% shop discount.
How much does it cost?
Visit our Pricing page for current pricing. We offer both monthly and annual billing. Annual plans include a discount (typically two months free). Beta members lock in founding pricing.
Is LiDAR included or is it an add-on?
LiDAR terrain is included at every level of Dig Here. Even the Free plan gives you base resolution terrain maps and 3D views across all four countries. No sign-up wall, no credit card, no catch. Paid plans unlock HD and ultra resolution terrain where our processing pipeline has reached (currently TAS, ACT, NZ fully; NSW ~55%; QLD, VIC, SA in progress), plus the full analysis layer suite. You never pay a per-state or per-country add-on fee at any tier. This is a deliberate choice. Other apps charge separately for LiDAR state by state (for example, $150/year for Victoria alone), which means you are paying extra just to see the ground properly. We think that is genuinely the wrong approach. Terrain is the foundation of everything a prospector does. It should not be behind a paywall on top of a paywall. We would rather give you the base layer for free and let you decide if the high resolution detail is worth upgrading for.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time. There are no lock-in contracts. When you cancel, you keep full access to your paid features until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. On a monthly plan, that means you keep access until your next monthly renewal date. On an annual plan, you keep access until your next annual renewal date. Your subscription simply will not renew. We do not offer partial refunds for unused time on either plan.
What is founding/beta pricing?
Dig Here is currently in beta. Users who sign up during the beta period lock in founding pricing, which means you keep your introductory rate even after we launch publicly and prices may increase. Beta spots are limited.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. The Free plan does not require a credit card. You only need payment details if you choose to upgrade to Fossicker or Digger.
Terrain and LiDAR
What is LiDAR and why does it matter for prospecting?
LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) uses laser pulses fired from aircraft to map the ground surface in extraordinary detail. It strips away vegetation, revealing the bare earth underneath. For prospectors, this means you can see old diggings, tracks, water races, mullock heaps, and terrain features that are completely invisible on satellite imagery or even on foot. Our 1m LiDAR shows the ground at one-metre resolution, which is detailed enough to pick out individual shafts and workings.
How does LiDAR actually work?
A plane or chopper flies over the terrain carrying a laser scanner that fires up to a million pulses per second straight at the ground. Each pulse hits whatever is below - treetops, scrub, rooftops, bare dirt - and bounces back. The sensor records the exact time each return arrives, which gives a precise distance measurement. Here is the clever bit: a single pulse can generate multiple returns. The first return hits the tree canopy, a second punches through and catches a branch, and the last return reaches the actual ground surface. By keeping only those last returns, the processing software effectively strips away every tree, bush, and blade of grass, leaving you with a bare-earth digital elevation model (DEM). That DEM is then rendered as a hillshade - a simulated sunlit view of the terrain - so you can see the ground as if someone cleared every bit of vegetation off it. Old diggings, collapsed shafts, water races, and mullock heaps that are completely invisible under dense bush suddenly pop right out.
What are LAS/LAZ point clouds and why does Dig Here use them?
LAS (and its compressed cousin LAZ) is the raw data format that comes straight off the LiDAR scanner. Instead of a flat grid of elevation values, a point cloud is literally billions of individual XYZ coordinate points, each one tagged with metadata like return number, intensity, and classification (ground, vegetation, building, water). Our high-res 1m terrain layers are built directly from these point clouds. The raw LAS data gets fed through our custom processing pipeline, which classifies and filters billions of points to extract bare-earth ground surfaces, then generates the elevation models and derivative layers you see on the map. It is seriously compute-heavy stuff - processing a single state chews through massive amounts of processing power and time - but the end result is so worth it. Working from the original point cloud data rather than pre-cooked government DEMs means we control the entire pipeline - better filtering, tighter resolution, and specialist layers like paleochannel detection that you simply cannot get from off-the-shelf terrain products.
What is the difference between 5m and 1m LiDAR?
5m LiDAR (available on the Free plan) gives you a broad view of terrain at five-metre resolution. Good for scouting regions and understanding the landscape. 1m LiDAR (Fossicker plan and above) shows the ground at one-metre resolution, which is detailed enough to see individual old workings, tracks, water races, and micro-terrain features that 5m resolution misses entirely. Both resolutions come from the same source data, so wherever we have coverage you get both. Tasmania, ACT, and New Zealand are fully covered. NSW is around 55% and growing. QLD, VIC, and SA are in progress. New tiles go live every day.
What are the 9 terrain analysis layers?
- These are specialist derivative layers computed from the raw LiDAR data. Each one reveals different features:
- ›Paleochannel - Ancient buried river channels where gold-bearing gravels once ran.
- ›Terrace benches - Elevated remnants of old riverbeds. Classic alluvial gold ground.
- ›Workings bump - Surface disturbance mapping. Every mullock heap, filled shaft, and disturbed patch stands out.
- ›Sky-View Factor (SVF) - Depressions and diggings leap off the screen, independent of sun angle.
- ›Local Relief Model (LRM) - Strips away the hills, keeps the fine detail. Shows micro-relief the eye cannot see on foot.
- ›Slope - Instantly read gradient. Find the breaks where gold drops out of flow.
- ›Positive Openness - Ridges, spurs, and exposed reef lines highlighted.
- ›Negative Openness - Gullies, channels, and shafts. The concave ground where gold settles.
- ›VAT Composite - An archaeology-grade visualisation blend. One layer, everything visible at once.
What is the difference between a hillshade and the terrain analysis layers?
A hillshade is a single-angle shaded relief image. It is useful but limited because features aligned with the light direction become invisible. Dig Here's terrain analysis layers are mathematically derived from the raw LiDAR elevation data and are independent of any single light direction. Layers like sky-view factor and local relief model reveal features that no hillshade can show, no matter how you angle the light.
Can I use 3D terrain view?
Yes. The 3D terrain view is available on all plans, including Free. It lets you tilt and rotate the map to see the landscape in three dimensions. Combined with satellite or LiDAR layers, it gives you a powerful perspective on how the terrain sits before you visit in person.
Evidence Layers
What are drill hole assays?
Drill hole assays are the results from exploration drilling programs, typically conducted by mining and exploration companies. Each record shows the exact location of a drill hole, the depth intervals sampled, and the gold grade found (measured in grams per tonne or parts per million). Dig Here has over 300,000 drill hole assay results across New South Wales and Queensland, with coverage expanding to other states. You can tap any drill hole on the map to see the full assay data.
What geophysics layers are available?
Dig Here includes gravity, magnetics, radiometrics, and mineral potential rasters. These are the same datasets that mining companies pay geophysicists to interpret. They reveal the structure and composition of the earth beneath the surface, helping you understand what is happening underground even where there is no surface expression.
What is geochemistry data?
The geochemistry layers include surface geochemical sampling results and OZCHEM pathfinder elements. These show concentrations of arsenic, antimony, and other chemical indicators that form halos around gold systems. If the pathfinder elements are elevated, there is often gold nearby.
What are historic workings and leases?
This layer shows every recorded gold working, current mining lease, and historic lease in the database - across both Australia and New Zealand. In NZ, that includes 293 gold workings from the GNS Science geological database and 722 active mineral permits. The old-timers found the gold. They just did not have the technology to get all of it. Seeing where they dug, and where they stopped, is one of the most powerful clues for modern prospectors.
What are mineral occurrences and placers?
Government-mapped mineral occurrence records and placer potential zones, layered over your terrain. These show where specific minerals have been officially recorded, including alluvial (placer) gold deposits and Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) deposits.
What is the watercourses with flow direction layer?
Over 2.5 million stream segments covering every mapped creek, river, and drainage line across Australia, with arrows showing the direction water flows downstream. Streams are colour-coded: perennial waterways (flowing year-round) appear in bright blue, while seasonal and ephemeral streams (non-perennial, only flowing after rain) appear lighter. For prospectors, those non-perennial dry gullies are often the most interesting ground, because that is where alluvial gold concentrates as water recedes. Click any stream to see its name, flow type, classification, upstream catchment area, and segment length. Gold follows water. Alluvial deposits accumulate at bends, confluences, and where the gradient changes. By overlaying flow-directed waterways on top of geology, historic workings, and terrain data, you can trace drainage patterns and identify where alluvial gold is most likely to have concentrated. No other prospecting platform offers flow direction on watercourses. The data covers all eight Australian states and territories.
Does Dig Here show land access information?
- Yes. The land tenure layer shows public land categories so you can see where you can and cannot go before you leave home. Here is what we show for each state and country:
- ›NSW - Full land tenure classification covering the entire state. Categories include Private, National Park, State Forest, Crown Land (Other and Leasehold), Conservation Area, Reserve, Indigenous Owned, and Unresolved Tenure. Private land is explicitly shown, so you can see exactly where freehold boundaries are. Fossicking is permitted on Crown land and state forests with a fossicking licence from NSW MinRes.
- ›QLD - Protected areas including National Parks, State Forests, Conservation Parks, and Reserves. Designated fossicking areas are shown as a separate gold-highlighted layer. Areas not coloured are generally private or freehold land. A fossicking licence is required from the QLD Department of Resources.
- ›VIC - Parks and reserves including National Parks, State Parks, State Forests, Conservation Areas, and Reserves. Areas not coloured are generally private or freehold land. In Victoria, fossicking with a Miner's Right (available from Service Victoria) is permitted on Crown land and state forest unless specifically restricted. The tenure layer shows you where those areas are. National Parks and Conservation Areas are off-limits.
- ›SA - National Parks, Conservation Parks, Forest Reserves, Game Reserves, Recreation Parks, Regional Reserves, Wilderness Protection Areas, and Indigenous Protected Areas. Forest Reserves, Game Reserves, Recreation Parks, and Regional Reserves are shown in gold as fossickable areas. Gold fossicking is permitted on these Crown land areas with a free Precious Stones Prospecting Permit from the SA Department of Energy and Mining. National Parks, Conservation Parks, and Wilderness areas are off-limits. Areas not coloured are generally private or pastoral land.
- ›WA - National Parks, Nature Reserves, Conservation Parks, State Forests, Timber Reserves, and other Crown land managed by DBCA. State Forests, Timber Reserves, and Crown Freehold areas are shown in gold as fossickable. Fossicking is permitted on these areas with a Miner's Right from DMIRS (Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety). National Parks, Nature Reserves, and Conservation Parks are off-limits. Areas not coloured are generally private or pastoral land.
- ›NT - National Parks, Conservation Reserves, Nature Parks, Historical Reserves, and Native Title Determination areas (Aboriginal land). Around 48% of the Northern Territory is Aboriginal land under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act. Fossicking on Aboriginal land requires 14 days written notice and written consent from the relevant Land Council (Northern Land Council or Central Land Council). National Parks and Conservation Reserves are off-limits. Fossicking on vacant Crown land is permitted with a free fossicking permit from the Department of Mining and Energy, valid for up to 5 years. Fossicking on pastoral leases requires 7 days written notice to the pastoralist. Only hand tools are allowed, to a maximum depth of 1 metre. There are 7 declared fossicking areas where fossicking is actively encouraged: Arltunga, Central Harts Range, Harts Range West, Warrego (near Tennant Creek), Mud Tank Zircon Field, Newry, and Wave Hill. Areas not coloured are generally pastoral lease or Crown land.
- ›NZ - DOC (Department of Conservation) public conservation land including National Parks, Conservation Areas, Reserves, and Marginal Strips, plus 722 active mining permits and 19 designated Gold Fossicking Areas. Areas not coloured are generally private land. A permit from DOC is required for fossicking on conservation land.
- ›The colour scheme on the map is consistent across all states: National Parks are bright green, State Forests are dark green, Conservation Areas are emerald, Reserves are teal, Crown Land (Other) is amber, Crown Land (Leasehold) is orange, Private land is slate grey (NSW only), Indigenous Owned land is purple, Unresolved Tenure is grey, and Marginal Strips (NZ) are light grey. Fossickable areas in QLD, VIC, SA, and WA are highlighted in gold so they stand out from the rest of the tenure layer.
- ›Every prospectivity pin also factors land access into its reasoning, so you know before you go whether the spot is worth chasing. Always verify with your state or territory authority before prospecting, as access rules can change.
Dig Here Prospectivity Pins
What are Dig Here prospectivity pins?
Dig Here prospectivity pins are priority-ranked targets generated by our proprietary fusion engine. The engine scores every patch of ground against 20+ datasets and drops pins where the evidence converges. Each pin is ranked by score (out of 100) and includes a plain-English explanation of why that spot scored highly, what was found nearby, what the terrain is doing, and how to work the ground when you get there.
How does the priority-ranked scoring work?
The fusion engine evaluates each location against multiple independent signals: drill hole assays, geophysics anomalies, geochemistry pathfinders, terrain features (paleochannels, terraces, slope breaks), proximity to historic workings, mineral occurrences, and more. When multiple independent signals agree that a location is prospective, the score goes up. A high-scoring pin means the evidence converges from many different sources.
Can you show me an example of what a pin says?
Here is a real example: "Recorded alluvial working on a terrace bench above a paleochannel. Drill assays within 400m ran up to 2.1 g/t. Ground dips in here, so gold can settle. Start at the old working and grid out 30-50m along strike and downslope. Crown land, fossicking permitted with a NSW licence." Every pin includes this kind of practical, plain-English guidance.
Do the pins check if I am allowed to dig there?
Yes. Each pin includes a land tenure and access check. It will tell you whether the land is Crown land, private property, National Park, state forest, or another category, and whether fossicking is permitted. Always verify with your state authority before digging, as access rules can change.
Which plan do I need for prospectivity pins?
Dig Here prospectivity pins are available on the Digger plan. The Free and Fossicker plans do not include prospectivity pins.
Is the fusion engine just guessing?
Not even close. The pins are evidence-based, not speculative. Our proprietary fusion engine evaluates hard data: real drill results, measured geophysics, mapped occurrences, and mathematically derived terrain features. It then ranks locations by how many independent datasets agree. The plain-English explanation on each pin tells you exactly which evidence contributed to the score, so you can judge for yourself.
Map Tools and Features
What tools are available on the map?
- Depending on your plan, the map includes:
- ›Base map controls - Switch between satellite, terrain, and standard map views. Adjust opacity to blend layers.
- ›Measure tool - Measure distances between points directly on the map. Plan your grid before you leave the car.
- ›3D terrain (all plans) - Tilt and rotate the map to see the landscape in three dimensions.
- ›Fit to data (all plans) - Automatically zoom to show all visible data points.
- ›Layer toggles - Turn individual data layers on and off to focus on what matters.
Can I save my own spots on the map?
Yes. Fossicker plan users get up to 50 private waypoints, and Digger plan users get unlimited. Drop them anywhere on the map. Your spots stay yours. Waypoints are private to your account and never shared with other users. You can also export them as KML or GPX.
Can I export data from Dig Here?
Yes. Fossicker and Digger plan users can export waypoints as KML or GPX files, which are compatible with Garmin GPS devices and mobile GPS apps. Digger plan users can also export pin locations and generate PDF trip reports for planning and record-keeping.
Does Dig Here have GPS tracking?
Yes. On the Digger plan, you can use live GPS tracking to navigate to prospectivity pins and your saved waypoints. Open Dig Here on your phone in the field, and it will show your position relative to your targets.
Can I use Dig Here offline?
Yes. The Dig Here iOS app lets you save entire goldfields to your phone. Maps, satellite imagery, LiDAR terrain, and all your data layers download to the device and work in a total blackspot. No reception needed once you are set up. The web app still requires an internet connection. Android offline support is on the roadmap.
What is the fossicking sites layer?
The fossicking sites layer shows 75+ officially recognised fossicking and gem sites across Australia, with access conditions, directions, and what you can expect to find at each one. This layer is available on all plans, including Free.
Mobile App
Is there a Dig Here mobile app?
Yes. The Dig Here iOS app is currently in beta. It is a full native app, not a wrapper around the website. You get LiDAR terrain, satellite imagery, all your data layers, offline maps, 3D flyover, compass navigation to pins, and a dark field-ready interface designed for use with gloves on. Android is on the roadmap.
Does the app cost extra?
No. The app is included with every plan, including Free. Whatever features your plan gives you on the website, you get the same on the app, plus mobile-only features like offline maps, compass navigation, and 3D flyover.
How do I connect the app to my account?
Open the app and enter the 6-digit code shown on your Dig Here profile page. That links the app to your account. Your pins, routes, and all your data sync down automatically. Nothing to retype, nothing to carry.
Can I use the app without reception?
Yes. Save any area to your phone before you head out. Maps, satellite imagery, LiDAR terrain, and all data layers download to the device. Everything works in a total blackspot. The compass, GPS tracking, and 3D flyover all work offline.
Is the app available on Android?
Not yet, but Android is on the roadmap. The iOS app is in beta now, and Android development is a priority.
What does the 3D flyover do?
The 3D flyover lets you stand at any spot at true ground height and look around. Your pins, saved routes, and old workings appear in the landscape. Use it from the couch to plan approaches and read terrain before you drive out. Or use it in the field - stand at a creek, hold your phone up, and see your pins and routes drawn on the ground around you. Planning tool and live field guide in one.
How does the compass navigation work?
Pick any pin or waypoint and the compass locks onto it. You get live distance, direction, and estimated time as you walk. It is true-north corrected using your device sensors, so it agrees with the real landscape, not just a map projection. Walk straight to the highest-scoring pin without guessing.

How is Dig Here different from other prospecting apps?
Most prospecting apps offer a basic hillshade layer (often as a paid add-on) and surface-level data like claims and tenement boundaries. Dig Here goes further by fusing ultra high resolution LiDAR terrain with 9 specialist analysis layers, 300,000+ drill hole assays with actual gold grades, geophysics, geochemistry, and prospectivity targeting. We also cover the United States and Canada with seamless hillshade and dense 1-metre elevation in key gold states. No other prospecting app combines all of these into a single platform across four countries.
How is Dig Here different from geology apps?
Geology-focused apps are strong on broad geological mapping and tenement data, but they typically do not offer bare-earth LiDAR, advanced terrain derivatives (paleochannels, workings detection, sky-view factor), drill hole assays with gold grades, or prospectivity pins. Dig Here is purpose-built for finding gold, not for general geological reference.
Why is LiDAR included and not a paid add-on?
Because we think charging per-state or per-region for LiDAR is the wrong model for prospectors. Other apps charge $40-$150 per state per year for LiDAR access. If you prospect across state borders, across the Tasman, or across the Pacific, those fees add up fast. Dig Here includes all available terrain data across Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada in your subscription. One price, four countries, no per-state fees. Coverage is still expanding (see our coverage maps for the current state of play), but wherever we have terrain, every plan gets access to it.
Do you have a comparison table?

Data and Accuracy
Where does Dig Here get its data?
Our data comes from publicly available government sources (geological surveys, open data portals, state mining departments), published exploration reports, and our own derived datasets (the 9 LiDAR terrain analysis layers are computed in-house from government-sourced LiDAR point clouds). Australian LiDAR is sourced via Geoscience Australia ELVIS. New Zealand LiDAR is sourced from Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), licensed under CC BY 4.0. NZ gold workings come from GNS Science GERM (Geological Resource Map), NZ mining permits from the NZ Petroleum and Minerals (NZPAM) permits database, and NZ conservation land from the Department of Conservation (DOC). US elevation data is sourced from the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and Copernicus GLO-30, both public domain. Canadian terrain uses Copernicus DEM GLO-30. How accurate is the data?
The data is as accurate as the original government and exploration company sources. Drill hole locations are typically GPS-surveyed. LiDAR is accurate to the resolution stated (1m or 5m). However, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of any individual data point. Historical records may contain positional errors, and conditions on the ground change over time. Always verify critical information independently before making decisions in the field.
How often is the data updated?
We update datasets as new government data releases become available and as we expand coverage to new areas. Our terrain processing pipeline runs continuously. As new LiDAR tiles are processed for Australian states and New Zealand regions, they appear on the map in real-time. The prospectivity fusion engine re-scores when new evidence layers are added.
Can I use Dig Here screenshots in publications or social media?
Yes, with attribution. Please credit "Dig Here (dighere.com.au)" and include relevant data source attributions as listed on our Data Sources page. See that page for specific citation guidelines.
Account and Privacy
Is my data private?
Yes. Your waypoints, saved locations, and usage data are private to your account. We do not share your prospecting spots with other users. We do not sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What data does Dig Here collect?
We collect your email and name (for your account), approximate location (for map functionality, never stored), and standard analytics data. We use Clerk for authentication, Stripe for payments, and Mapbox for map rendering. We do not use tracking cookies. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Contact us at hello@dighere.com.au to request account deletion. We will remove your account and all associated data.
Where is my data stored?
Our servers are hosted in Australia and the United States. See our Privacy Policy for details on data storage and handling.
Legal and Safety
Is Dig Here a substitute for legal advice on land access?
No. While Dig Here shows fossicking districts, parks, reserves, and land tenure information, this data is for guidance only. Laws and access rules change. Always check with your state or territory authority (for example, NSW MinRes, VIC DJPR) and obtain any required licences or permits before prospecting. A fossicking licence is required in most states.
Does Dig Here guarantee I will find gold?
No. Dig Here provides the best available data and analysis to help you make informed decisions about where to prospect. The prospectivity pins show where evidence converges, not where gold is guaranteed to be found. Prospecting always involves uncertainty, and no tool can guarantee results.
Can I use Dig Here data commercially?
Your Dig Here subscription is for personal, non-commercial use. You may not scrape, redistribute, or resell data from the platform. If you need commercial licensing, contact us at hello@dighere.com.au. See our Terms of Use for full details.
Troubleshooting
The map is slow or tiles are not loading.
Dig Here renders a lot of data. Try turning off layers you are not using, zooming in to reduce the area being loaded, or switching to a faster internet connection. If the problem persists, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge are all supported.
I cannot see LiDAR or terrain analysis layers.
These layers require the Fossicker plan or above. If you are on the Free plan, you will see 5m terrain but not the 1m LiDAR or the 9 analysis layers. Also check that the layers are toggled on in the layer panel, and that you are zoomed in enough. LiDAR layers only render at certain zoom levels.
I signed up but cannot access the map.
Make sure you are signed in (check the top right corner of the page). If you just signed up, try refreshing the page. If the problem persists, contact us at hello@dighere.com.au.
