History

Moonstone Hill is a general permission area named for its deposits of feldspar moonstone. The area lies in the volcanic Lava Plains country west of the Great Dividing Range, where ancient volcanic activity has produced a range of gemstones and minerals.

What You Can Find

Feldspar moonstone is the main attraction, with pieces showing the characteristic blue-white sheen (adularescence) that makes moonstone prized by gem collectors.

Loose pieces can be found on the surface and in shallow digging.
