History
Scrub Lead is a designated fossicking area on the eastern edge of the Central Queensland Gemfields. The name comes from the local mining term for a sapphire-bearing gravel lead running through scrubby bushland.
What You Can Find
Sapphires and zircon in alluvial gravels. The area produces similar material to the nearby Sapphire township.
Getting There
Located east of Sapphire, accessible via local gemfield roads. Conventional vehicle access in dry conditions.
Camping
Camping available in nearby Sapphire township. No facilities at the fossicking site.
