History
Thanes Creek is a fossicking area west of Warwick on the Darling Downs. The creek has produced alluvial gold and occasional sapphires from its gravels.
The area has been fossicked since the late 1800s and remains popular with weekend prospectors from the Darling Downs and Brisbane regions.
What You Can Find
Alluvial gold in the creek gravels. Sapphires and other gems are occasionally found.
Panning and sluicing in the creek are the main methods.
Getting There
From Warwick, head west towards Pratten. Thanes Creek is signposted.
Warwick is approximately 160 km south-west of Brisbane via the Cunningham Highway.

Limited facilities. Accommodation available in Warwick.
