History

The Willows is a large designated fossicking land area south of the main gemfields. It covers a wide expanse of open country and is popular with experienced fossickers who prefer to work away from the more crowded areas around Sapphire and Rubyvale.

The area has a long history of sapphire production, with alluvial gems found in the wash gravels across the field.

What You Can Find

Sapphires and zircon are found in the alluvial wash gravels.

The area is less heavily worked than Sapphire and Rubyvale, so finds are still possible with patience.
