History

Young's Block is a general permission area near the historic gold city of Charters Towers. Gold was discovered at Charters Towers in 1871, and the city grew to become one of the richest gold-producing areas in Queensland.

The Charters Towers goldfield produced over 200 tonnes of gold from underground reef mining, but alluvial gold was also found in the surrounding creeks and gullies.

What You Can Find

Alluvial gold in creek gravels and gullies. Metal detecting can be productive in the surrounding country.

Topaz has also been reported from the granite country near Charters Towers.
