History
Gold was found at Wedderburn in the early 1850s. The town has been a magnet for detector users for decades, and big nuggets have been found close to the surface in and around the town.
Where to look
Old shallow leads and alluvial caps around the forest. Our workings layer shows 37 recorded old workings inside the forest boundary.
Getting there
The forest adjoins Wedderburn on the Calder Highway, about 75 km north-west of Bendigo.
Camping
Dispersed camping is generally allowed in State forests unless signs say otherwise. Wedderburn also has a caravan park.
